Prairie Pet Insurance is an insurance broker specializing in pet health insurance, serving Western Canada. We were founded in 2017 by our parent company, Rayner Agencies Ltd, an insurance brokerage founded in 1948 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Pets are a cornerstone of Rayner Agencies. With over 90% of their staff owning cats, dogs, or both. We launched Prairie Pet Insurance to help them and other Canadian pet owners acquire affordable coverage for their pets, giving them peace of mind!
In Canada, less than 10% of pet owners carry insurance coverage for their pet’s health (comparatively, up to 50% of owners in certain European countries have pet insurance). We have identified two primary contributing factors to why so few Canadian pet owners have decided to purchase insurance.
Many Canadian pet owners are not aware that insurance options exist for their pets or don’t know enough about coverage options to consider insuring their pet’s health. Another reason pet insurance hasn't grown in Canada is because of how it is typically purchased. It is most often sourced directly from an insurance provider, which can be a daunting task if you are not well versed in the insurance industry. There is a lack of pet insurance brokers in Western Canada working on behalf of consumers. This is why we decided to open Prairie Pet Insurance in the first place.
